CONVERSATION ANALYSIS

I created this document as a reflection of my tutoring practices at the UCF University Writing Center. The process for creating this was rather complex. First, I audio recorded a consultation that I had with a writer. Then I listened to the entire 45 minute consultation and transcribed 15 minutes of talk. I chose segments of talk that were indicative of potential challenges with my tutoring or otherwise revealed patterns that were worth investigating in detail. Using the transcripts, I closely studied the language patterns of my talk and the talk of my writer, and from there constructed a conversation analysis to explain my observations. I also related them to overarching writing center theory and practice, drawing upon scholarship from major writing center scholars.
